Finally I'm a graduate after a long while. There is a sense of belonging that acompanies success.I hope many of us haven't forgotten those sleepless nights of assignments, projects and studying for exams. After my diploma in the prestigious Yaba College of Technology in Lagos,Nigeria,i moved over to the heart of Asia,Malaysia to further my studies and i chose computing cos it looked more challenging and i have never regretted that. The school runs a tri-semester,so i was always in school with very little time to my self. Before i left for Malaysia,a very close uncle of mine gave me some words to part with.I still remember it vividly and it goes thus
"Little by Little,days fly bye,
Today is gone,tomorrow comes
There after we grow old and ready to die
Enjoyment out to be the greatest enemy of man
But it is good after cnsiderable achievement"
These words kept ringing in my ears.At somepoint in between my studies,i tend to reduce or even stop my social life.I finally finished my school course work sometime in April 2008 and then moved to Oracle Corporations for my Internship and then to Innotiive Asia Sdn Bhd,a database consulting firm.
I finished my Intern few weeks after graduation for the year 2008.Some way some how,i kept forging ahead.I thought i was going back to Nigeria, not until i was called by a Subsidiary Company of my Institution Computech and since then till now,i've been working there.
Finally the graduation was planned and set for last saturday july 18th.Graduanda,families and well wishers came enmass. It was a thing of joy for me to stand on the podium as my name was being read out loud to collect my scroll.
At the end of it all
"Enjoyment is good after hardwork doesnt necessarily mean leaving out social life and focusing only on your studies,It has to do with setting your priorities right by putting more on YOUR SCALE OF IMPORTANCE compared to YOUR SCALE OF PREFERENCE.
Its good to be a graduate. Its good to feel success, even sweeter when you keep striding on higher.Dont stop till you get enough.Since we are insatiable in terms of money and other luxury things,we should be insatiable in our quest for knowledge.Knowledge is a continous process, and the best way to retain it is give it out by imparting it in people. The chancellor of the school Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Abdul Rahman Arshad gave some words to move us on in life.To me,success is not just achieving and staying put on the tip of the ice berg, success it getting off the ice berg and staying afloat.
On this note,i thank the Almight God in whom i trust, hope and believe in,my Parents Mr&Mrs fabiyi,My Family as a whole,My Big Uncle Alhaji Waheed Kadiri for his unrelenting support from my diploma days back in yabatech and my friends;those that have left and those that are still around me.You all have made an impact in me 1 way or the other and you are all highly appreciated..Love you all
Hi all,
I joined VOX not just to network but to also impart knowledge in my own little wise and be imparted too..So i feel its best we put up post, tutorials, questions e.t.c so that we all can learn from each other..do have the best the week brings..regards
Last nite's MBA lecturer did not start as normal. But like an MBA programme is supposed to be,collaborate with the industry and its expert. It dawned on me that thinking in the box wont help no matter what you do.
Basically Ass Prof Dr Dominic Lau,a Blue Ocean strategist and consultant came to give a talk on what BOS is..I'll use BOS which is an acronym for Blue Ocean Strategy through out my write up.
I'll ask a basic question;as a manufacturer, product seller or service provider, who would you focus on?
This question when first asked by the speaker baffled me and baffled me even more when he gave the answer which BOS teaches.
Basically i was made to understand BOS has to do with a BOOK;a book? you must be kidding me was what i said(in my mind). What makes it so special is that,it is endorsed by harvard and actually published by the Harvard press,so you know what i'm talking about and it has also been translated into 41 different languages, what a feet.
Anyways to cut the long introduction short, the speaker said we should focus more on none customers, people that dont need what you produce. How possible is this.It sounds bodohish(a term for stupid in the malay language) but at the end of the day its a pandai(used for smart) concept.
Blue Ocean Strategy basically strategises on the basis of "Making Competition irrelevant" which is the concept behind the blue ocean,as we all know, blue ocean literally is clear water free from dirt or rubbish and this being termed to BOS has to be leaving the Red Ocean, the ocean of Competition. How can this be possible, when there are alot of people in your business area.
This is where focusing on non-customers come in.Even though you're doing very good and you cant make competition irrelevant, then u're chattering in the Red Ocean. It is noteworthy that even your Blue Ocean with time will turn to Red Ocean cos competition will come in and it only comes in when you're successful in what you do.
But what actually gives you the competitive advantage to charter into another Blue Ocean is INNOVATION and VALUE.Innovation has to do with creating ideas and value is the satisfaction your products and services give.Value is the reason why people buy products.
You wonder why do people buy Rolex or Audemars Piguet watches for hundreds of thousands of dollars. They aint stupid.Though all watches have the same landing poing of keeping you upto date on time. But what the above mentioned vintage vendors sell is value which came from innovation so so long ago,so we now see that innovation and value are interrelated.
You may ask yorself,so how do i focus on those that dont need my products or services or my non-customers?
This is where Blue Ocean Strategy comes in.Basically an analysis has to be done on the subject matter in view.
I'll give two examples;the first is about a phone manufacturing company in Asia. They've been chattering in the Red Ocean, then they thought about it;What if we target non-customers,basically non-customers for mobile phones are kids(to some extent, nowadays kids have too).So they prototyped and designed a mobile phone that has just 3buttons
Button 1: Call Daddy
Button 2: Call Mummy
Button 3. Call Home
This basically has to do with Innovation to create from ideas.I wont be a ble to give the 2nd example here now.I have attached an eBook by Ass Prof Dr Dominic Lau the speaker,so you can read more.I'm following up on this and probably get certified as a Blue Ocean Strategy consultant. It was somuch fun till it ended,we went for dinner and then got back to class for the nite's lecturers.
Now i'm at work blogging on this..I think i just found a new hobby i love...Write to touch lives, impact people.Have a blissful and fun filled weekend everyone

Heard about twitter and some other networking blogs..i just chose VOX cos Pierre Omidyar(founder&owner of eBay) uses it..so so inspired by his story and which teaches again that its not where you're coming from but where u are and where u're going to..which all has to do with innovation..check more about him by clicking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Omidyar
Anyways,i see a new meright now..I actually created this to share my own little knowledge of whatever i learn in MBA class..Wont mind comments(good or bad)..thanks for reading this..do have ablissful weekend..cheers
